Good afternoon Cougar families, I hope everyone is doing well with all that is going on in these unprecedented times and we thank you for your patience.
Typically, we would be getting ready to kick off the start of the season with the first practice within the next two weeks. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic we are forced to reevaluate some things and do our best to prepare for a season that will look drastically different than what we are accustom to. The safety of our athletes, their family, and our coaching staff is our number one priority. As we continue to work with the Greater Puget Sound Football League on safe start/return to play protocols and the Tacoma School District on facility usage for practice and games, I want to communicate tentative dates and the latest information on Pierce County progressing though the Phases of Washington State’s Safe Start Plan impact the start of the season:
Phase 3 –
What we know:
Outdoor group recreation sports activities can resume (5-50 people)
Recreational Facilities can operate at 50% capacity
What this means for you. We can officially start practice!
Phase 4 –
What we know. This phase is scheduled to begin 3 weeks after the start of Phase 3, at the earliest. This means that if there are no changes in the state’s phased re-opening plan, all normal recreational activity can resume.
What this means for you. We can officially play games!
These plans continue to be work in progress and largely dependent on King and Pierce county progressing through the phases of Washington State’s Safe Start Plan.
Tentative Dates –
First Practice – August 10th
First Game – mid to late September
Due to the changing nature of the WA-State health guidelines, we have launched the “2020 NW COUGS REGISTRATION QUEUE” this will allow parents to register their athletes for the upcoming season without making any initial down-payments. This will also allow us to create an up to date mailing list and assist with relaying all updates and changes to any information we receive about the 2020 season.
Again, the Northwest Cougars take the health of every one of our players very seriously. Please feel free to contact us by phone or email with any questions concerns or even suggestions about the upcoming season. Thanks
